SERVPRO Helps Protect our Environment During Commercial Water Restoration Projects
Conservation efforts worldwide help protect many animals from becoming endangered or, worse, extinct. There are a few conservation sites in the Lafayette area taking part in this worldwide effort. Some of these sites also protect natural flora, with the understanding that much of such plant life provides food and shelter to many different animal species, in addition to supplying something we enjoy seeing.
Like the wolf, some animals show up as characters in many children's stories, reinforcing the belief that more of them exist. Some individuals believe that predatory animals pose too many dangers and hold no value in any ecosystem. On the contrary, such animals help keep entire groups of other species from experiencing hunger and disease common in overpopulated areas.
The Wolf Park
The Wolf Park is a local sanctuary, just north of Lafayette (in Battle Ground), designed to hold both wolves and several other canids like foxes and coyotes. A small herd of bison is also featured here. The staff and volunteers work tirelessly to educate the public about wolf pack behavior, their crucial importance to the ecology of lands they inhabit in the wild, and other aspects of the species. Tours and other activities are held, including virtual events, for the public.
Here are a few other places where you can visit, learn, volunteer, and help with conservation efforts:
- Columbian Park Zoo,
- Jerry E. Clegg Botanical Garden, and
- The Celery Bog
Columbian Park Zoo
The Zoo, a memory-creating sanctuary for those with young children, also uses its resources to help breeding programs of under-populated species. There are so many exhibits and activities at the Zoo that many patrons find it difficult to see the entire facility in one day.
Jerry E. Clegg Botanical Garden
The Botanical Garden is not a garden in the traditional sense. Instead, it is a wooded area with open spaces. Guests find many plant varieties, and birds and butterflies use it as their home. Lucky visitors also get to view turtles, small rodents like squirrels, and other critters.
The Celery Bog
The Bog might surprise you with its diverse aquatic flora and the various animals abounding here. There are many water-loving birds here and possums, rabbits, chipmunks, and beavers.
